Bike Sharing Is Catching On!

Yeah — more and more cities are starting bike-sharing programs! I can’t wait until San Francisco launches one.

I was recently at the Googleplex (amazing, btw) and loved seeing the colorful bikes all over the place. Google employees can take a bike and ride it to another building in the sprawling Googleplex and then leave it in front for someone else to take. So civilized!

Doing Halloween Green

Yes, everything in our lives can be made greener. Even Halloween. For everything you ever wanted to know about this issue, check out this website. Sierra Club has also put some green Halloween stuff on their website.

Don’t forget the 3 Rs at Halloween — when decorating, partying, costuming, and trick-or-treating, try to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

World Vegetarian Day is Coming Up!

One of my favorite events all year is San Francisco Vegetarian Society’s celebration of World Vegetarian Day in Golden Gate Park. It will be the weekend of Oct. 2-3 and will be so much fun!

You definitely do not need to be a vegetarian to enjoy this event — but you will learn a lot and enjoy yummy veg samples! There will even be speed dating again this year!

I particularly want to highlight a great speaker on the vegetarianism and the environment — my husband, Dr. Dan Brook.

Come say hi to me at the front entrance on Sunday afternoon and visit me in the speed dating room on Saturday afternoon.

We need more volunteers, so consider donating a bit of your time!

Today Is World No Tobacco Day

World No Tobacco Day is observed around the world every year on May 31. It is meant to encourage a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption across the globe and to draw global attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and to negative health effects.

The theme this year is Gender and tobacco with an emphasis on marketing to women.
